Item Description

This is a beautiful vintage Greek Orthodox wooden icon depicting St. John the Theologian (Evangelist) dictating the Gospel to his disciple Prochorus inside a cave on the island of Patmos. The artwork features rich, vibrant colors and traditional gold-toned accents, true to classic Byzantine iconography.

The Greek text identifies the figures as "Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ Ο ΘΕΟΛΟΓΟΣ" and "Ο ΠΡΟΧΟΡΟΣ". The lower right corner bears a Greek inscription attributing the style/work to Mount Athos and the year 1972 ("ΧΕΙΡ ΜΕΛΕΤΙΟΥ ΣΥΚΙΩΤΟΥ ΜΟΝ - ΑΘΩΣ - 1972"). The reverse side retains its original certification sticker confirming it was crafted in the spirit of original Byzantine iconography found in museums and monasteries.
