Unique Antique Hand-Painted Orthodox Icon: Saints Constantine & Helen

A magnificent opportunity to own a unique piece of living history and faith.

A Piece of History and Devotion

This icon depicts the saints Constantine and Helen (Konstantinos and Eleni), standing on either side of the large cross they both hold. Above their crowned heads, the old Greek script identifies them: "Ο 'Αγιος ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ" (Saint Constantine) on the left, and "Η 'Αγια ΕΛΕΝΗ" (Saint Helen) on the right. Below the central scene, there is a detailed inscription that appears to be a donor's dedication or artist's signature, partially illegible but adding to its antique character.

The entire panel is framed with an incredibly unique, rustic border made from countless pieces of broken, multi-colored tiles and plaster, creating a distinctive, mosaic-like edge that makes this piece one-of-a-kind.

Condition & Authenticity

This is an item of considerable age. It is sold with all its authentic, antique character. The painted surface shows natural craquelure (crackle), some wear to the paint and gold leaf, and minor paint loss, as visible in the detailed photographs. The backing board is also hand-painted in plain gold and shows its age. The rustic, mixed-media frame is an integral part of the piece. This is not a modern reproduction; it is a true antique item full of soul and history.
