Offered here is a striking antique hand-painted religious icon depicting a winged angel Archangel Michael , painted on an old wooden panel.

The icon has a remarkable aged appearance, with an original-looking distressed painted surface, strong antique patina, extensive craquelure and beautifully worn colors. The angel is shown frontally with large pale wings and a richly colored red, yellow, blue and green garment.

The composition is surrounded by an ornamental border containing geometric and cross-like decorative motifs, giving the piece a distinctive traditional religious and folk-art character.

THE REVERSE

The back retains its old wooden construction, including two horizontal wooden support battens, old hanging hardware/string and handwritten markings. The wood shows considerable age and natural wear.
