Vintage CIARTE Greek Orthodox Byzantine Icon – 950 Silver

Beautiful Vintage Religious Art & Collectible

Offered for sale is a beautiful and highly detailed CIARTE Greek Orthodox Byzantine-style icon depicting the Virgin Mary and Christ Child.

The icon features exceptional raised silver relief work with intricate Byzantine decoration, ornamental borders, angels and traditional religious symbols. The faces are beautifully colored, creating a striking contrast with the detailed silver-colored relief.

The piece is marked SILVER 950 and comes with the original CIARTE Certificate and Golden Seal of Quality, as shown in the photographs.

Historical Design

The lower inscription refers to a Byzantine icon associated with the Meteora tradition and the year 1790. The CIARTE documentation identifies the piece as a reproduction/copy of an older Byzantine icon, rather than stating that this particular silver plaque was manufactured in 1790.

This makes it an attractive collectible for enthusiasts of Greek Orthodox religious art, Byzantine iconography, vintage silverwork and CIARTE pieces.

Condition

Vintage pre-owned condition. The icon shows signs of age and previous handling, including light surface scratches, minor scuffs and natural darkening/patina to the silver relief. The black frame also shows some scratches and areas of wear consistent with age and previous display.

The detailed relief, decorative elements and painted faces remain attractive and display very well. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
